What we do
We meet several times a week to learn problem-solving skills and to apply what we have learned - and to have fun!
Each team is given the task of programming a robot using LEGOS and motors. Computers are used to program the robot to complete various assigned challenges. We are scored by the number of challenges we can successfully complete. As you can see in our team picture, we are given a competition mat and a list of obstacles to build from LEGOS. During competition we are not allowed to touch the robot, other than to turn it on, our computer programming must be completed and as perfect as can be by the time of the competition.
"The FIRST LEGO League is a powerful hands-on approach to teaching children valuable problem solving and critical thinking skills, math, and science concepts. The children are learning to collaborate, both as a team and in small workgroups, to solve complex problems. The robots they build provide immediate feedback and the opportunity to test many designs. The mentors and I are enjoying seeing the learning and progress that has been made in just a few short months"
