Hello and welcome to my hobby CNC machining web site. I first became interested in CNC machining a few years go when I began looking into making a robot gripper for my robot. I researched how the parts were made and became as fascinated with CNC machining as I was with robotics. After doing a lot of research over the course of a year, I purchased a Sherline Lathe, Mill with Rotary Axis, and an AhHa CNC Conversion. Concurrently, I researched CAD/CAM software and selected Dolphin CAD/CAM. Now, with the equipment, software, and a supply of raw materials, I was ready to make chips. Well, almost.

INSPIRATION FOR THIS SITE: While I found several excellent books and web resources to help me learn specific information about machining, CAD and CAM, I could not find a single source for an end-to-end tutorial -- everything I needed to know to make a sample part from start to finish on a small CNC machine. I reasoned that if I could be walked through the complete process on a handful of sample parts that would demonstrate a variety of machining operations, tool changes, and the like, that I would then have the basic skills needed to design and machine my own parts. In the absence of such a resource, I decided to create one myself. You're looking at my first steps.

DISCLAIMER: I am by no means an expert machinist! In fact, to even call me a machinist would be a stretch. I am a self-taught student of computer aided machining (a hobbyist) who has taken the time to document what he has learned. I have been most fortunate to have many fine individuals who have helped me along the way and who continue to do so. This site is dedicated to others, like me, who are learning CNC machining and with gratitude to those who have helped me along the way.
